Keating has Left

culmstockgull wrote: 22 Jan 2020, 15:19 If this story if accurate then I am sorry to see him leave, has he had a fair run or chance to prove himself at this level, I do not believe he has. if his skill set was below what was expected then perhaps Johnson should have invested more time with him as he seems to have done with the likes of Cameron, Niate, Buse ,Mcdonald, all players that will always struggle at this level no matter how much time you spend on coaching them, or in the case of the goalkeepers no coaching at all, but miraculously seem to be ever present in his team regardless of their indifferent and sometimes woeful performances, I had a conversation with Ruari before Christmas when I first posted I felt he would be off soon, he genuinely felt his face did not fit and indicted that Johnson does not like being talked back too. If Ruari is being allowed to leave then Johnson one would hope, have a replacement in mind because we are sadly lacking a forward with muscle and who doesn't get dizzy if his feet leave the ground.
Hopefully Jared Lewington will be that man.

AFC Fylde vs Torquay United 18/01/20

I don't care how good or experienced Jim Bentley is, he's no match for our GJ!
With Little back and the new lad at left back we have the potential to return to our winning ways with Lewis at right-back being the only square peg in a round hole.
Let's hope for another clean sheet with Jamie Reid reminding the Fylde faithful what its like to have a talismanic striker on form :)

Current squad

As happy as I am to see some experience at the back I can't help but feel sorry for Joe Lewis who has never really been given the opportunity of a run at centre-half, I guess his versatility has been his downfall. Hopefully this new guy will work though. Slightly concerned that he joined City in the summer after having his contract terminated by mutual consent at Yeovil after injury. Hopefully he's fit...

Danny Rowe has been transfer listed, if a certain someone does leave us could GJ work his magic and persuade Rowe to swap the grim north for sunny Devon?
Would he be a perfect replacement? It would certainly show commitment from Osborne if he could seal the deal.

*Yes, I realise he will probably have a host of League 1 and 2 clubs after him but we can dream!

Johnson out

Also, I would like to remind everyone of Paul Buckle's tenure. Two season's in the conference finishing in the playoffs then in our first season in League Two we finished 17th before pushing on to the playoffs again the year after.
Seriously, all of you calling for GJ's head. Please get some perspective, please don't be so shortsighted. GJ is the best manager we can get and we should fight to hold on to him for as long as we can.

Howdidigethere wrote: 06 Jan 2020, 20:32 Lots of people backing the manager which is fantastically loyal but other than insults directed at those posting rational concerns, I don’t see a lot of valid arguments to back up their shortsightedness. The continued claims about our injury ravaged team hold no water as far as I’m concerned. We had no injuries against Boreham Wood’s 10 men first game of the season and we were definitely less than impressive that day. Followed it up with a shocker at Solihull and another home defeat to Mighty Maidenhead. Three of our home wins have been achieved when playing for a sustained period against 10 men. With the odd exception, we have not played well all season and we have done nothing to correct a fragile defence other than to keep swapping the goalkeeper behind it. We owe a big thank you to Jamie Reid but should he move on during this transfer window, where are the goals going to come from then?
We’re heading for stormy waters during the second half of the season and I for one just hope we don’t end up sinking.
I don't think anyone is denying that things are not good and that GJ should rightly be having some pressure applied from above. But, bare in mind that Gary Johnson is one of the best managers we have ever had, the only manager to have won a league title with TUFC, one of the greatest managers to ever work in the Conference, if we get rid we better make damn sure we have someone lined up who is going to perform at least as good as him.
You say "I don’t see a lot of valid arguments to back up their shortsightedness", well I would say the same to you and all the others calling for GJ's head. Where are your valid arguments to back up why we should sack GJ? Who would you replace him with. Given the amount of managers the club has employed in the last 30 years and how few of those were actually successful over a prolonged period just who do you think can do a better job than Gary Johnson?

So Janneh is back? I guess with his form and fitness this season there was no chance of a league club being interested. Just hope he bucks his ideas up and starts performing. If he's going to continue to be near undroppable he really needs to start playing better.

Reidy28 wrote: 03 Jan 2020, 16:09 Can someone please bloody tell me how Gary and his brother have not had signings lined up? He knows as much as us that our defence is a massive issue. You’d have thought he’d have players ready to sign on January 1st. Loans etc. If no one is in for tomorrow then I’ll be absolutely baffled. All “January is a big month for sighings” if we lose tomorrow he has to go. We have 3 defenders available and one out on loan. Inexcusable.
If it was just a case of getting numbers I am sure they would have signed a raft of players by now. But it's not numbers we need, it's quality.
As we all know there is no transfer window for us, we can sign who we like, when we like. The window is there for the league clubs though, the reason that January is important for us is that those league clubs will be looking to replace current players, make new signings and releasing/loaning their old players to the likes of us. That was never going to all happen on January 1st. It will take time but I maintain full faith in the borthers Johnson to make those signings over the next few weeks that will lift us back up the table.
A decent goalie and an experienced centre-half and all of a sudden we look like one of the top teams again. I would rather they take their time and find the right players at the right price rather than signing any old tat just to appease those few fans who refuse to see the bigger picture.

Lloyd James signs!

Would like to see the three(?) kids given a start, along with the new boy, Keating, maybe Buse at right-back.
Reid and anyone carrying a knock should definitely be given a rest. Although it's useful to stay in the Trophy for a couple of rounds to give the fringe players a game the League has to be the priority.

Whilst I think Reidy28 is going way over the top and I agree that much of the criticism against GJ is wrong I find it difficult not to criticise him a little.
Why does he keep swapping the goalies? What does Cundy have to do to get dropped? What does he keep trying 3-5-2 when it never works? What has Keating done? I don't want to have a go at GJ but I am genuinely interested to know his thinking behind some of his decision making.

Eek. With a cente-half at fullback and two attacking midfielders in the middle with no cover this could be a long afternoon. Need to score early and keep scoring!
