Re: Atieno gone

From reading that article it makes it sound very much as though Jarvis has agreed to join.....
If so, definitely a step up from Tai, and hopefully there's space for another top class striker in the budget too, although I get the feeling it will be spent on wingers

Re: Players speaking to ML today!

Similar to last year, it seems Lingy likes to have either top players or cheap young squad-fillers in his squad, never much in between
To be fair, it's probably the best way to build a competitive squad with the budget we have.
So it doesn't surprise me that the likes of LRT and Palmer are off. LRT is somewhere in between these squad roles and Lingy could either spend a little extra than LRT's wage to bring in a 1st team player or a little less on a young bench warmer.
Palmer was obviously on his way when MacKenzie was promoted to the pros. Can't see 3rd and 4th Centre back cover being both these 2. and with MacKenzie no doubt taking up less wages he'll get the nod all day.
In theory, with the extra income from the new stand next year, we should have a higher wage budget and therefore a higher ratio of top players to squad-fillers, or perhaps a better calibre of player amongst the first 11. :scarf:

Re: Can we do it?

I saw an interesting statistic on the Southend v Crewe preview on the BBC.
It says:

"Crewe can be encouraged that, in only seven of the 50 play-off semi-finals that have taken place at this level since they first started in 1987, have home teams turned round a first-leg deficit."

So, we have a 14% chance of turning this around, which isn't great odds really, but those seven did it so why not us too :scarf:

I've coveted the other gaping chasms in your retort in my original post.

Regardless, form is temporary, class is permanent and over 46 games, we've been as near as makes no difference identically classy to Cheltenham, it's a coin flip.

Matt.

are you sure it's ok for me to post my opinions on your forum Matt?

tell you what I'll agree with you if you call me Wibble Wobble? deal?

Re: Form going into Play-offs

ferrarilover wrote:You base that on current form?!?!? WRONG!

Scorer, any mathematician, scientist or data analyst will tell you that taking your sample from a more narrow range will make your results LESS representative. 10 games is a perfect balance between relevance (not too long) and representativeness (not too short). I stand by my results.

Matt.

form generally takes into account the last 6 games rather than 10.
if anything form is something better represented by a narrower result set.
the most recent results IS you're form

i think for once you may need to accept you're wrong Matt

or at least accept that, by you're own logic, form is more representative over 46 games

Adam Davies

I see we are currently trialing a young Cardiff City defender:

should be interesting to see what he is like in tonight's game
Can't find much on the internet about the lad, except that he may have been on trial at St Johnstone last week...

does any know anything about him?

royalgull wrote: Yep, I made the point on another thread I truly hate this modern trend of playing wingers on the wrong sides. I don't think it suits either of ours, maybe Stevens slightly more so but I think they'd be more effective on the other sides.

It's not worth giving anyone a 'go' when we are 4th with 2 games to play. Want the strongest side we have available out there that's done well for us for 95% of the season. That doesn't include a left back playing as a winger/striker for anymore than 10mins a game.

With this 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation, I think Lingy wants his wingers cutting inside to pass through the middle. If Danny went outside and crossed from the byline we'd only have Rene there, so it wouldn't really work.
But I agree - i like wingers to skin their fullbacks and hit the byline, but only in a 4-4-2

Re: Player contracts and moves

If we remain in league 2, as indeed most of us suspect bobby and eunan get snapped up by league 1 or championship clubs, their inclusion in the tean of the year would hopefully boost their sale price.
we can at least get a decent fee and put the money to good use. then press on next year in the knowledge that lingy has plenty of fingers in plenty of pies
Ellis and lathrope should sign under the reassurance that they are 1st teamers next season
no doubt jarvis will be the first signed up
all looks positive for a healthy looking squad next year

seems morale is higher at Crawley since the fat man has gone!
doesn't bode well for dropping points in their last few games :(

Re: Tonight's Games (Tues 27 March)..

Absolutely incredible scenes. :O
well maybe not incredible for those cheating crawley bastards!

the first time i watched it i didn't know the 2 teams involved, so my crawley prejudice wasn't clouding my opinion.
But it was instantly clear that the ones in white were throwing a lot more punches than the other team, and also that the goalie landed some absolute crackers. I think Bradford can feel been hard done by to come off the worst, although their goalie should be in prison for his efforts!

I've watched the brawl over and over and I make it 5 Crawley players and 3 Bradford players that actually threw a punch or made aggressive attacks at the opposing players, with 3 Crawley and 1 Bradford landing proper punches.

hopefully the FA disciplinary panel will issue the extra red cards to those crawley scum else it seems they would have got off very lightly.

whether it affects their run in or not is questionable as they've probably got a load of Championship players on the bench to replace them...
