FA cup

I have to agree regarding our defence, every game we look flaky at the back and the one area that was crying our for being strengthened since last season and we've brought no one in.

How many times this season have we seen Marshall and Tomlinson open a massive gap between them and the strikers getting in time and time again.

When I saw Yeovil bring in Michael Smith last week, it confirmed my thinking that Yeovil will win this league. It was the sort of move we desperately needed, wiley old head steering the defence, but at best we'll end up with lightweight 'starlet' from an U21s team learning the game.

I guess it's purely down to the contrasting finances, but will be the difference between winning the league and settling for playoffs.

FA Cup stick or twist?

Yellow6 wrote: 11 Sep 2023, 19:40 Off to Wimborne on Saturday with the squad starting to come together. Stick with the team or let the fringe have a go? Hanson, Crowe, Lovett, da silva to start???? Orkeep the league 11 and go all out??
I think with a whole week's rest before Hemel away, I'd be going with the same 11 and securing the win.

It would be nice in an ideal world to rest some players and give minutes to some fringe players, but it may be that just as we have found form, it will help keep momentum going by sticking with the current 11. Disruption might have the opposite effect when we return to League action.

Torquay United v Chelmsford City Sat 9 Sept KO 3pm

Building on an improved performance against Farnborough, there was a really good grit and determination to stand up to the Chelmsford challenge, which let's be honest are one of the strongest teams that will come to Plainmoor this season and they were right up for it eh!
But fair play we didn't let them out-muscle us, albeit we are still a rather lightweight team, especially in defence.

Best thing about this performance was that we can see we have a lot more to come as players are finding their feet, as is the squad finding its cohesion gradually and we showed we can stand up to one of the better teams in this division.

Torquay United v Farnborough Tue 5TH KO 7.45

For me, that's our best performance of the season so far. I know that's not saying a lot, but there's hope.
I think Moxey starting made a big difference, as well as Will Jenkins-Davies suddenly looking like he's adapted to this league. Far cry from the rabbit-in-the-headlights we've seen up until now.
We're still very dodgy at the back. We need a Guy Branston back there if we're going to win this division.
Jarvis showed his class, skill and leadership tonight.
Finally a performance to make us feel we're heading in the right direction.
I must admit I was hoping for a negative result for the next 3 to make Johnson's position untenable but hey ho onto Chelmsford for another good test and let's see what trajectory we are looking at

Not sure about anyone else but the streaming service was pretty much unwatchable for me. Cuts out every 10 seconds despite having a fast download speed (~50mbps)

Dover Athletic v Torquay United - 3pm 5th Aug

I'm wondering whether today's game will actually be on.
Arrived in Dover about 10am and it has been raining non-stop since.
Can't imagine Dover's pitch has decent drainage facilities installed.
Mind you it's on a slope so maybe it will all run down to one end

Not sure whether the website is up to date but Dover seem to only have 10 first team players:
https://www.doverathletic.com/list/firs ... d-2022-23/

There are some recent signings on there so I was assuming it was, and I have heard some talk about them struggling to put a team together this year.
I wonder whether we a few youth team fillers starting on Saturday

Players Under Contract

Watching the Back-to-Training footage posted by the club on YouTube, I couldn't help notice a couple of things

Firstly Dan Martin was there, so he's still in contention for a contract it seems, presumably if he can prove he has got over all last year's fitness problems.

Secondly, I couldn't spot Ross Marshall in amongst the group.
There was plenty of footage of all the players, and the only one of the under contract players that I didn't spot.
Maybe coincidence, maybe he has been told to find another club.
I always thought it strange we released Ali Omar, but he was ahead of Marshall in the pecking order for the second half of the season

Torquay United v Bromley - Tues 28th Feb

Oh dear what a poor display. So embarrassing.
We're so bad and we have to accept this is now relegation to NLS.
I wonder whether we will change manager for next season's NLS campaign?

New Signing - Lewis Collins

In his interview he gave me the impression he has left Newport for good, so much so I had to check that it was actually a loan move.
I wonder whether his contract expires at the end of this season and he's gone off to put himself in the shop window for a summer move.
Maybe GJ is looking at this as a permanent signing for us

Gary Johnson, stick or twist?

It is completely unfathomable that Gary Johnson is still in charge.
I can't think of any precedent where a manager has underachieved this immensely and hasn't been sacked.
No other club would allow their aimless and inevitable demise without making a change to see if they could rescue themselves from relegation.

What is happening at TUFC? This isn't normal. We're 2nd bottom in the table, why aren't they changing anything?
Does Uncle Clarke not care what league we are in?
Maybe it is irrelevant to his long term goal for acquiring land for housing and making his nefarious pretty penny from this venture?

Why on earth is Gary Johnson still in charge and being allowed to run us down into the NLS?
The mind boggles.

Southend v Torquay Sat 03/09/22

Biggest problem position for me is right back/right wing back, we only have Crowe who can comfortably play there and he looks at least 1 or 2 divisions below this level.
Every time I've seen him this season he's either out of position or being skinned, conceding goals and chances we can't afford.
Plugging this hole in the team could go a long way to solving the width problems others have quite rightly pointed to.
I wonder how much loan money is left in the budget

The guy uses several every post for some reason. They are quite off-putting and cringeworthy; particularly given he rarely uses them correctly
