If Monaco can squeeze the Stade Louis II into their tiny area... we should have such a problem fitting a new Stadium into the Bay.
Money and negativiety though will always be stumbling blocks.

I think it's appropriate to say at this time that I have a dream.The new stadium should be on the front at the rugby ground.This would be the most fabulous site of all of U K football.Eight thousand seats is ample, a good first division side is about our level,but think of the attractions this fab stadium would bring,fancy watching Elton John on a beautifull Torquay night.There are other summer sports that Torquay should be attracting,Tennis should be a must with a joint project from torquay and the council,Bowls,indoor and out should also be a must,what a place to come and play internationals.playing the euro millions every week so who knows,maybe one day!.

With a supporters head on, I would like a new stadium by Torquay Rugby Club on the seafront.

With a business head on, and assuming I had unlimited money to invest, I would relocate the club to Newton Abbot. Why? because commerically that would be the best place to be.

Regarding Yeovil, I think their situation is slightly different, for a start they are Somerset's only league club, they represent the whole of the county and always have, even when in the 2nd division of non league football (isthmian league) we would often pull up alongside Yeovil Supporters coaches off to an away match against Tooting or Croydon dwafing Torquay's away support....whilst in the early 80's Torquay were getting crowds around 1200, Yeovil were consistentantly doubling that, even as a non league club they were bigger than Torquay.

Unless Thea is doing the Euromillions nowadays, this will never happen of course. But hey - it would make a lot of sense. Good rail and road links (when the new road is completed) and with ample parking included. Also, we wouldn't be bothered by those inconsiderate Plainmoor residents who complain every time their drives are blocked ..........

Sure I've read somewhere that the family stand was built with the ability to put a 2nd tier on it. So, an extra 1k up there plus rebuild the Pop so it goes back a bit more. The design of the Pop is woeful.

It would be technically feasible to enlarge the Plainmoor capacity without too much collateral damage. But there would still be so many negatives about the Plainmoor location, difficulty of access, lack of parking, and so on. Even the Recreation Ground, despite its preferred more central location and the proximity of the railway and some parking facilities, has difficult and often congested road access from surrounding districts.

Logically, somewhere not too far from the railway, around the Willows area or on the Kingskerswell side of Scotts Bridge, with direct road, rail, and bus links from all areas, would make the most sense. A new stadium in such a location, with easier all-round access and an associated modern community/business/retail complex, could not only ensure a viable financial future for the club but also give us a far better chance of success on the pitch and up through the leagues. Even if we never made it into the Championship, easier access for our overall population catchment area and being able to accommodate the supporters of the many clubs who are bigger than us would amount to a fair sum in extra revenue.

Adherence to traditional Plainmoor sentimentality in the future could well mean a continuation of our historical mediocrity and then any thoughts or ambitions of real success and progress as a football club would indeed remain nothing more than a pipe dream.

The funniest bit was the criticism of St Mary's, which is one of the best grounds in the country. Been there as a Torquay fan and as an interested neutral and it has always been an enjoyable visit.

right, so, if we are never to move from plainmoor and by some miracle somebody cracks the enigma that is torquay united and suddenly we have a successful team that plays free flowing, beautiful football, achieves a promotion and dares to dream of, or has potential of another, and hoardes of football fans in the area want to come and watch this team but cannot get in because games are always sold out, what can we do to increase plainmoor?

apart from bristows bench, each time we have rebuilt a section of the ground i have always been a bit surprised because i was expecting us to go bigger.

when the old mini stand went and that whole end was rebuilt into the family stand and all the rest of it i thought at the time we should have bought the swimming pool, and that bit of land around it and gone back further and higher. apparently we were'nt allowed to. we probably couldnt have afforded it anyway. could we add another tier one day if it was needed? i doubt it.

same as the popside, is it me or did the old one hold a lot more supporters. it definitely doesnt have as much depth.the way the new one was built hasnt really left much you can add in or change.

the away end is ok, but, a few have said there is a bit more room behind it. could a bit of this been used so that end could have gone back further and a bit higher? i've never been behind there so i dont know. could we have made it a bit higher with a few more capacity anyway? would a second tier be feasible?

its hard to believe we once had 21,908 people in there. i know the structure and design is totally different now and health and safety restrictions blah, blah, blah. but the whole area of the ground is so small, they must have been packed in like sardines and almost sat on the pitch.

The ideal place for the new stadium would be directly on top of Hele Village(Hell Village to some.) The work shy would be moved out to either Kingskerswell were they could help out on the bypass or Buckland. Then again I hear Kabul is nice this time of year not been there for a while so cant vouch for it, but they love single mothers and wide boys with those stupid dogs.
Anyways back on topic, it would be ideally situated for all transport links and the hospital and crematorium are both not far for referee's and their assistants that dont go to spec savers.

We've been in the Football League for many decades. Then those young Yeovil upstarts come in from non-League with a new stadium and shoot up as high as the Championship, a feat we've never accomplished! Good luck to them, but who do we blame for Torquay's mediocre record?

Plainmoor is far from perfect. Nowhere to park, well out of town, and public transport to get there is pretty terrible. If, hypothetically, we were to find ourselves in the Championship - unlikely, I know - Plainmoor is plainly unfit for purpose.

although you're right in that moving somewhere soulless would be a bad idea. if it ever were to happen, they'd really need to try something something with the stadium design because of the recent one look they just pick one out of a catalogue and change the seat colours.
