Daily Mail: Corruption in the Metropolitan Police:

One of the country's top prosecutors is facing professional ruin following sensational claims in a London courtroom that she lied to judges in order to hide damning evidence of police corruption – at the risk of sending an innocent man to jail.
At the heart of the growing scandal, whose origins were exposed by this newspaper in February, is Sasha Wass QC, the barrister who prosecuted entertainer Rolf Harris and the £2 billion rogue trader Kweku Adoboli.
A court has heard claims that Ms Wass not only buried an official report by the Metropolitan Police confirming there was evidence that officers in its anti-corruption unit had taken bribes, but that she prosecuted the lawyer who brought the report to the attention of the authorities for perverting the course of justice.
The alleged attempted cover-up almost led to a lengthy prison sentence for the man who blew the whistle, Bhadresh Gohil.

Just over 100 years ago, on 27 October 1916, all but two of the crew of the Salcombe lifeboat lost their lives on the sand bar of Salcombe estuary in a fierce storm: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-devon-37707203 It's appropriate to remind ourselves of the bravery and dedication of all RNLI lifeboat crews who, even today, are supported by charitable donations.

I'm also reminded here of Tennyson's poem 'Crossing the Bar': https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossing_the_Bar

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.

On 19 November (International Men's Day: http://www.internationalmensday.com/ http://ukmensday.org.uk/ ) a group of extreme (and extremely silly) young feminist women will be engaging in a 'Reclaim the Night' march in London. From their website:

"Reclaim The Night is a women-only march. Girls of all ages and boys aged under 12 are welcome to attend.

This women-only event will end with speakers outside St Paul's Cathedral followed by a social (mixed) at the Paternoster Bar, Paternoster Row, EC4M 7DZ."

Why a mixed social at the end of a women-only event? Obviously, men will be needed to pay for the women's drinks..!!

(Reclaim the Night marches were started in 1977 by the Leeds Revolutionary Feminist Group to celebrate and inspire the rise in bogus feminist statistics and false rape and sexual abuse accusations which have continued to this day).

More seriously, York University has once again refused to recognise International Men's Day, with IMD events on campus being banned, indicating the extent to which Academia is influenced, if not controlled, by extreme ideological feminism: http://www.breitbart.com/tech/2016/11/0 ... day-again/

Islamic Finance: this should be required reading for all our politicians: http://www.conservativewoman.co.uk/tim- ... f-muslims/

While this thread is mainly a vehicle for publicising opinion pieces that coincide with Gullscorer's own views, rather than actually highlighting any news that we might not of heard, it still does serve a purpose ;-) .

Do 'our' politicians, and if you knew whose interests they're mainly concerned with furthering, you'd find good reason to question the use of 'our' really need to be reading a one-sided piece from the rabidly anti Muslim Tim Dieppe ? The guy spends his life attacking Islam on any pretext he can dream up, as his twitter account reveals https://x.com/tdieppe

Tim has spent a huge chunk of his life serving the cause of global capitalism:

Tim started his career in 1992, and worked on several equity fund management teams, finally joining the SRI Team at Henderson Global Investors in 2004, when he took over management of the global SRI funds. Tim managed some £400m of global multi-thematic SRI funds, working as part of a highly integrated collaborative team of six SRI specialists.

And in that respect, I do agree that with so much in common with our politicians, they'd feel an affinity towards Tim from the word go.

However, I'm sure politicians would get a far better grasp by reading something more balanced, rather than any of the regular denunciations of Islam put out by the bitter Tim Dieppe.

Joe, this thread is a vehicle for anybody to post news we might not have heard, links to interesting topics we might not have heard of, and perhaps discussions thereof. It's perfectly normal for many of the links and items to reflect one's own weltanschauung; your latest post is perhaps an example. The number of views would indicate that there's an interest in the thread; it's unfortunate that so few others take any interest in actually contributing.

I saw the CW article on Muslim Finance and thought it interesting, and so I provided the link, knowing nothing about the author nor the subject itself, so it does not reflect my own views which are as yet unformed, though I do feel the subject is important enough that all our politicians should keep themselves fully informed.

And by 'our' politicians, I'm thinking of those we have democratically elected, even if we feel they do not represent us because we didn't vote for them. Democracy may not be perfect, but the alternative is even worse, and I'm all for democracy if it maintains the freedoms we hold dear, such as freedom of expression and of opinion.

The CW article is but a start. I cannot, and should not be expected to, provide a complete treatise on the subject; I'm in poor health and have neither the time nor the energy, and that is not the purpose of the thread. But other contributions and opinions are welcome, and if you are able to provide further links to 'something more balanced', as you put it, those too would be welcome.

Anyway, here's a link (no comment necessary) to another news item you may not have heard:

The BBC are already refusing to consider white men for new BBC jobs in the name of 'diversity', considering only females and 'minorities'. Given the small size of the Jewish community in the UK, 0.5% of the population, about the same as the Indian community, Jews are massively over-represented at the BBC. They make up 27% of BBC editors and correspondents, as well as being over-represented among the executives and on the management board. Nothing against Jews per se, nor any other minority (women are actually a majority in the UK) but shouldn't diversity mean everyone gets a fair chance? http://www.dailystormer.com/jewish-and- ... t-the-bbc/

The Daily Stormer? Are you actually serious? It's a straight up Hitler-admiring white supremacist website that rails against the Jews at every opportunity it can. Why the hell would an openly Nazi website be a reputable source for the ethnic makeup of a organisation? You've posted some nonsense before now you're regurgitating blatant anti-semitism. It's disturbing that you actually ended up on that website.

What next, conspiracy theories on how the Rothschild's control governments or how Jews drink the blood of Palestinians? Think next time.
