What a fine example of architecture that Cowshed was.

Unless you can remember being there in the day in it, then it's impossible to know the ramshackle state of Plainmoor in comparison to the modern rebuilt Plainmoor of today.

I remember it well. In the late 50s stood at the far end of the cowshed from the stand - I don't know why unless it was to make a quick getaway at the end to get into town for a drink and then onto the Spa Ballroom if there was a dance. There are still birds there but with feathers now and they say times have changed for the better.

So for us youngsters, the Cowshed was where the Family Stand currently is?

Also, this picture is of the "Main Stand" in 1981, which I'm guessing is the Grandstand/Bristows Bench side. If it looked like this only 31 years ago, when was the Grandstand built?

As can be seen from the photo, the old grandstand (pre-arson, oops accidental fire) didn't go down all the way to the Babbacombe End goal line. It ended about level with the edge of the Babbacombe End penalty area.

Although the new Bristow's Bench doesn't go all the way to the Ellacombe End goal line, it does go all the way to the Babbacombe End goal line.

Whatever way you want to look at it, Bristow's Bench is a huge improvement on its predecessor.

Question. I started going in 1988, when the Ellacombe end was the mini stand I think.

What was the cow shed and when did the mini stand replace it?

My first match in 1954 I stood behind the goal in the Cowshead aged 10. Eric Webber was centre half. In those far off days we played in black and white stripes. I shall be at Plainmoor today for only my 2nd match this season COYY.

yes i rememember it in 1965 when i started going, great crowds and atmosphere, anyone got a photos of the cowshed?

Stefano knows the history of the Cowshed, he posted such in a thread way back in the past pages. I don't think when he was played Western League football at Plainmoor for TUFC Reserves, the Cowshed was still up.

If I'm correct, Stefano was a very capable right fullback, who amongst others, played for Centrax in their heyday.

Anyone know the attendance that night? I have never seen so many packed into Plainmoor Ministand and all

20,000+ for that Spurs game, and I was there, on a bench on the edge of the pitch next to the tunnel!

Yep, the cowshed stood where the Family Stand now sits. I might have an old photo of it somewhere. If I ever find it (unlikely) and if I can eventually get to grips with this new-fangled computer stuff, I'll try to post it on here.
