Had to head up to the ground today and the delightful Andrew Candy kindly offered to show me the site (please don't all rush down there, he is crazy busy and I got extremely lucky that he was free for 2 minutes). It's all gone. The whole thing is now a rapidly vanishing pile of rubble. I took one poignant photo (at least, it would have been if not for my being the worst photographer on Earth and using an iPhone) of the rubble pile with just the remains of 3 1/2 of the yellow steps poking through.

By the time of the Janner match, you'll not recognise the place.

Matt.

RIP Grandstand. The Grandstand > Grandstand but only just, the theme tune was sensational.

I remember sitting there once for a thrilling (ahem) 2-1 win against Northwich with a last gasp penalty from Tim Sills, and standing in the very small bit of terrace in front of it chatting to Michael Poke and his Dad during the 0-0 with Notts county which saw Lee Hughes almost get in a ruck at the end of the game, quel surprise.

Torbay Golf Centre. Gone....but never forgotten.

Thought I'd bring this topic to the top as someone has asked for updates!

The latest is on the OS now about more leg room!

When it finally opens, shall we (the Popside regulars) make a special event of it and move over there to try it out ?

More leg room is good. So many times I've been in stands that give you no space, so hopefully this one will give a bit more! The Family Stand is shocking for someone my size, knees/shins on the back of the seat infront!

Leeds United was the worst for me, Nick, bloody awful seating arrangement.

What about the archeological dig?

There's always an archeological dig. They'll probably find more horseshoes, or some little Roman shiny brass Buckles.. ;-)

Could somebody please remind me of what the ground capacity will be when the new grandstand is finished? Around 9000? My dream is for the Gulls to win promotion this season (not impossible) and to begin the new season in League One with the new grandstand and a sellout crowd.

I think it's closer to 6500 from memory.

Doesn't seem very much. But then it doesn't pay to over-reach ourselves as some clubs have done.

Some of the stands could be expanded as and when necessary in years to come. For example, if the club is still planning to purchase houses behind the away end, when it can be afforded, it would facilitate an eventual expansion of the away stand. Affordability is the key word..

Dream on Gullscorer.

As it happens, match by match, this eyes wide open dreamer is willing it to happen.

No point in going to support otherwise.

There'll be 1,750 seats on Bristow's Bench, I'd thought the ground capacity would be around 7,000?

Could add another 1000 to the capacity by eventually putting seats/terracing in the corners.
