[OS] Charlie’s Italian Job!

Post by TorquayFans.com »

United’s Under-18 defender Charlie Wills is currently part of the England College’s FA National Men’s Squad competing in the Roma Caput Mundi tournament in Italy. With United’s Under-18s enjoying another great season, on a personal note it’s been one to remember for defender Charlie Wills. After being named on the bench for United’s first-team fixture away at Frome in the Isuzu FA Trophy in December, Charlie received further recognition and was one of twenty to be selected in the ECFA National Men’s Squad. This has seen the youngster follow in the footsteps of former youth players Ben Aldous and Calum Thomas, who both made last season’s squad. His selection in the squad came in December, following a number of rigorous trials across the country in the few months prior. Following on from this, Charlie spent two days training with his national teammates at England’s St George’s Park training facilities. After his squad selection back in December, Charlie is now currently part of the squad in the Roma Caput Mundi tournament in Italy, with the group stage fixtures seeing ECFA face the likes of the hosts Italy, as well as Greece and Canada. The Roma Caput Mundi tournament is an annual event that provides England Colleges players with the unique opportunity to take on national youth teams from across Europe. Image England College’s tournament began on Monday where they played Italy, and a 93rd minute penalty saw England come away 1-0 winners. For their second fixture on Tuesday, the side ran out 2-0 winners against Greece, with Charlie being named on the bench, having been allocated squad number 14. Next up for the ECFA National Men’s squad is Canada on Thursday afternoon. Speaking of Charlie’s national call-up, which has seen the youngster presented with his England cap, Under-18s Manager Kevin Wills is understandably delighted for Charlie. “Charlie has been selected for England Colleges and is currently playing in a tournament in Italy,” began Kevin. “I’m really pleased for him, and what an unbelievable experience for him!” Congratulations, and all the best for the remainder of the tournament, Charlie! The post Charlie’s Italian Job! first appeared on Torquay United.
