Torquay United v Slough Town sat 10th

Post by Dave »

The Gulls go into Saturdays game off the back of another poor result, although reports from those at Tuesday nights 3.2 away loss at Maidstone suggest a much improve performance, whilst it's been said after a number of match's won of the back of a poor performance a win is a win, the same applies in the other direction, doesn't matter how the team battled, they got 0 points.

I don't believe in being either positive or negative just for the sake of it, there must be some credit given for Tuesday night, and if that's a sign of a consistent run of improved performances, results will soon follow, but that remains to be seen.

I was unable to follow the events of Tuesday night, believe both Marshall and Moxey were withdrawn with injuries, so will interesting what type of defence we'll see fielded in this game, which could be key.

Back in August TUFC picked up a credible 1.2 away win at Arbour Park, however a lot has changed since then, Slough have recovered from a very slow start to the season by their normal high standards at this level, while we've seen our own team pick up only one win so far in this calendar year.

Think it's fair to say Slough's management will be aware of the unrest, anger and frustration around TQ1 at the moment, and I'm sure they will try to use that to their advantage Saturday, an early goal for them, or a prolonged period without our team scoring, and the crowd atmosphere will turn toxic.

In the majority of games so far this season I've been fairly certain which way the result will land, not much of an idea for this one, if we see a repeat of Tuesday, can see a TUFC win, any repeat of last Saturday v St Albans and Slough will stroll away with the points, so sitting on the fence for this one, the team concede too many, but there's goals in our team.

TUFC 2 v 2 Slough.

Torquay 2 Slough 0

Going, forward, the new boys Arkell and Booth both look strong.

Add these two to players currently on the books, namely..........

Halstead

Moxey

McGavin
Lapslie
Stobbs
Dawson
Hall

Jarvis

In my opinion, those ten are all good enough to see us promoted. Add in one from the likes of Archer, Martin, Marshall, Tomlinson, Ash, Jenkins-Davies and Collins and we are definitely good enough to make the play offs, from our current position. If we could put out that strength of team in the play offs, however unlikely, I am confident we would beat any team in the NLS. Yet again, two more injuries sustained on Tuesday so it's hard to be confident this team will ever play together, but if it happens I firmly believe we will still be promoted.

The trouble is Skillsy, as the saying goes, it looks half decent on paper, the reality is something completely different, we never have our strongest team out, some of those players flatter to deceive, Jarvis and Dawson have been crocked for ages, there's no guarantees they'll hit the ground running, we've got a team low on morale and confidence, a manager who I'm not sure the players are listening to, has become clueless of late, and seems to of glossed over the St Albans result, going on about the performance in yet another loss to Maidstone, 100% he won't be sacked, I'm wondering if his post match interview after St Albans was an act because whatever he alluded to, hasn't happened..Skillsy,I CAN see your thinking, but I think the damage is already done, the names you've stated are good pro's, but the majority just haven't performed well this season even when they have played, and this is why I doubt we'll make the playoffs.
