Chippenham v Torquay Tue 23rd

Post by Dave »

Some forum members have chosen to play down yesterdays performance, others hold an opinion , our teams performance wasn't so bad v Dover, either way all are entitled to an opinion as long as there's a degree of honesty regardless of whether you were at the game or listened on the radio, can't see how anyone should be annoyed.

One thing I think, I can can say for sure, is this match followed by Saturdays trip to Worthing will show whether our team really is in a good place for the play-offs, or whether the recent run of games against sides mostly in the bottom half has put us in a false position.

This is a tough game to call here, overall form patchy on both sides, there's also no clear pattern of away followed by home fixtures in this division, back in December Chippenham won away at Hemel Hempstead yet a month later lost the return fixture, but recently Chippenham have picked up a home draw with Yeovil, won at Maidstone, and saw them picking up a credible away draw at Aveley, also worth noting that Chippenham have lost 9 games all season, 1 defeat less than ourselves.

We've seen the return of Ash, Hall and Lapslie to the fold giving us some extra strength, however from a personal point of view I have lost all confidence in GJ, and need some winning over as to our chances of promotion via the play-offs.

This game really could go either way, and of course I hope for the 3 points we all do, but sadly think we'll come up short.

Do not see us getting anything from this game unless there is a major change in tactics, you cannot leave ash upfront in his own , its not his game. As for hall and lapslie being back, I think it will be another month before they both manage 90 minutes if they ever do so its one for the other for the next few weeks. I think its 2-0 chippenham.

Ash works very hard but is not a natural target man. I still think Asa is the best option to play up front (alongside Ash) until Jarvis returns, even if it’s not for the full ninety minutes.

Hall has no pace, is not good at holding the ball up, can't be expected to battle upfront for very long.......... apart from that all good.

Hall upfront happens if we need a goal in the last 10 minutes, nothing more.

Tuesday if we have no new injuries, we at least can rotate Lapslie, Hall and Harris with some degree it'll be beneficial.

Holding the ball up to bring a striker or mid-fielder into play is an art in itself and I would concur Asa would be a good option.

Dave there is one thing you did not mention.

Chippenham have a terrible Home Record. Played 14 Won 3 Drawn 6 Lost 7. 15 points out of 42. 20th on Flashscore for the Form Home Record.

So we have the Home team playing TUFC whose away record is 16th in the Form Table with 13 points from a possible 33.

A hard one to call. I go 1-2 to the Gulls. Why? Because they have lost 7 of their 9 lost games at HOME!
