How long will Buckle last at Bristol Rovers?

Post by Dave_Pougher »

This sounds like sour grapes but I swear hand on heart it is not.

I am very aware of how partisan the Gas support is and am also aware of how reactionary and sometimes unprofessional the Bristol Rovers board can be. If things don't start well PB is in for a tough ride no doubt about that. Rovers, like us love defying the odds esp in situations like comming back from behind. I can't remember a match where we have come back form behind with PB at the helm. His lack of Plan B has always been his biggest downfall IMO.

I am genuinely interested in how you feel.

20 weeks...we've always been a club that is stable and suited-at he minute for league 2 but rovers WANT promotion so they are likely to have less patience.

Would have voted for 1 season - when he fails to gain promotion - but there was no option for this :|

Half of me wants him to do well but the other half cannot get past his recent behaviour and wants karma to sh1t all over him!

I think if they're not at the right end of the table pushing for promotion by Christmas he'll be out, and that could be a tough thing to do with a relegated team in a short space of time. I hold nothing against Bucks (well, not as much as some on here it seems ^.^ ), but he's got a tough job and anything but immediate success may be swiftly punished.

Must admit I would find it funny if he failed there. Hopefully gone before the season is over.

I think you will find if he establishes the attacking brand of football that you played this season then he will be popular AND will stay until HE decides to leave us for a bigger fish. I can honestly say that our forum today is the most poisitive it has been for years whereas even from day 1 Dave Penney was not looked upon as a good choice.

Buckle will be given time, no doubt about it.

Paul Trollope was the 7th longest serving manager in English football at the time he was placed on gardening leave. He had 5 years in the job. That shows we are willing to give managers time.

Penney on the other hand was a disastrous appointment and the chairman was brave enough to admit he got it wrong and sacked him - rightly so.

I think he'll do well at Rovers to be honest, he's a strong character and not afraid to upset the applecart and do things his way, which Rovers probably need. His record stands up pretty well too: 226 games, 104 wins, 58 draws and 64 defeats.

It really depends how much patience they have. I don't think Rovers fans quite grasp just how dire and prolonged our bad runs of form could be under Buckle and it was rarely (if ever) down to injuries or thin squad. There have been times here were many people would have happily have seen him leave / get the boot and we don't have as high expectations as you do.

If he has one of these spells before a good spell, he will be shown the door pretty quickly. The chances of this happening are 50/50.
