Andy Provan rip

Post by Loyal fan »

Just seen that 70s United player Andy Provan sadly passed away last week.
Great player and top bloke.
Did I miss this on the official site?

No, nothing on the official site.
Well Andy - my fave player - one of the players I first saw play when I went to my first games.
He lived with his family on Sherwell Valley Rd and I got to know him and his boys playing football in Sherwell Park and he helped out with training for our boys' team, Upton Villa.
Loved to watch him in the No.7 shirt running down the wing - Scotland's Ronaldo!
Another player to play for both Torquay United & Barnsley.
Another taken away through the dreadful effects of Alzheimer's Disease.
RIP Andy, sadly gone but will never be forgotten.

Very skillful, and strong player for his size.
Scored the most perfect hatrick I have ever seen in a 3-0 win v Rochdale
A diving header, curling chip over the keeper and a outside of the right boot
20 yards swerving shot.
Thanks for the memories Andy.

RIP Andy. Never knew him as a player, but he was a real gent. Kindest soul you'll meet.
He even gave me the ball from the hat trick you mention a few years back.

Ah, the mid 70s... what a time to be a football fan. The Mini Stand packed. The state of the pitch. The flares (and, no, not the pyrotechnic kind). Those wastebands. Those shoes. Loved it. And Andy Provan was part of it all.

Rest in Peace Andy
