Torquay United v Barnet - FA Trophy (Saturday 11th February 2023 @ 15.00)

Post by Nick Potkins »

Torquay United takes on Barnet in our first back to back weekend games against the Bees. Clearly, next Saturday's league game is really important to us and our survival chances. However, this weekend is a chance to make a statement, let the new guys settle in, and keep some momentum. Further, Wembley is getting closer. While we would all take league survival, who would say no!

Fingers crossed for a win, no new injuries, and a welcome result. COYY

If offered the choice, I would take the 3 league points next week at this moment in time.

If you ask any supporter whether they want a trip to wembley or survival in the national I think most, if not all would take survival, I do not believe that both are possible, we do not have the squad size or depth for the fixtures that are coming, between the 18th of feb and 28th march we already have 10 matches, do we really need anymore distractions.

I fully agree. Play well but a 10-9 defeat on penalties this week and three points next week is what is needed.

Getting to Wembley with our squad is a distraction we.do not need, NL survival is crucial. Too many games which brings injuries and suspensions.

I get what people mean when they say we would rather the league win given the choice, but of course, it doesn't work like that.

Barnet are the team who have a lot of games and travel to contend with, this is a great opportunity for us to try and win both games and that is what we should aim for in my opinion.

Looking at the draw, Barnet are probably the best team left in the Trophy.
Beat them and we'd have a reasonable chance of winning it.
But obviously avoiding relegation is a far greater priority.

Trouble is, is the final is at Wembley. Yes it's a great stadium when full, but if there is only 15,000 or so in there it becomes a bit soulless. And it doesn't have anywhere near the atmosphere of the old Wembley. Would be nice to win something though. :)

Any extra income has to be a bonus. I hope the money for winning ties gets a little more significant now.

I see johnsons comments today in devon live indicate he will ring the changes tomorrow, bringing in the likes of mcgavin, omar and crowe, nothing about the perennial sick note that is Hall, although a friend suggested yesterday that Hall is doing his coaching badges although I have no evidence to support this.

With the amount of games we have coming up I’m not surprised to see Johnson say he’ll ring the changes. Rightly so, progression is a bonus that shouldn’t override our survival aims. Happy to win it though!

Does anyone know if the FA trophy games are part of the National League TV package?

Two completely different competitions overseen by two different organisations.

That is why we have to pay for tickets today despite being season ticket holders.
