Welling Utd v TUFC 16th February 2019

Post by Southampton Gull »

We've just received this message from a Welling fan.

Hi guys,

You might want to keep an eye on the train situation this weekend. There are no trains at the moment on the Welling line until the weekend due to a landslip at nearby Barnehurst. Hopefully it will be up and running but you never know!

If it is there are other lines open but this would mean buses, taxis to the ground.

Thanks for the heads up, Dave.

But feck it. I've just bought my ticket - nothing serious showed up when I looked.

Hey ho.

Doesn't look like it - 400 tonnes of debris to be cleared:

After getting back at about 3am on Tuesday at least a afternoon kick off will mean getting back a more reasonable hour. No disrespect to hemel but they were easily dealt with. Welling in the playoffs will be a much harder game. Should be a good game and look forward to visiting the place for the first time

Welling used to be Bexley United - with strong links with Charlton and West Ham. Awful ground then, with muddy, sloping pitch.

I worked in the shop as a boy in the 60s, selling programmes, sweets, and rosettes made from crepe paper. Happy days.

From the link that torq2u sent, this update has appeared:

UPDATE 12:00 Wednesday 13 February:

- After extensive work by Network Rail we're expecting the line to reopen in time for services to start on Monday 18th February
- If work finishes earlier then we will reopen sooner than that if we are able to.
- If anything changes that might delay the reopening of the line we will give you as much notice as we can.

The update just gives the very few British that have any faith in the rail network cause for optimism , but in reality what the rail network are saying is that the line will be closed until Monday.

Scott, thanks for your helpful posting. I had intended to go by train. Hence two questions please.
1/Any other stations nearby suitable?
2/What is like for parking these days?

Many thanks. :goal:

I think I am going to go to Sidcup station, and catch a 51 bus (Woolwich) from there, (stop L) . According to google maps, buses every 10 mins, 20 min journey, and then 10 min walk, more like 15 min walk for me!

Whenever I've visited Park View Road in the past, I've never had any trouble parking near the ground - on some occasions virtually right outside the turnstiles. As the Wings don't get very big crowds (there average being around the 650 mark) I can't see a problem with the parking (if you're driving that is). There are plenty of side streets around the ground itself.

More importantly though, can we carry on from where we left off at HH on Tuesday. Of course we can! .... Wings 1 United 3. Attendance 901 with 250+ Yellow Army.
