Torquayunited v Woking Fa Cup 1st round 10/11/18

Post by lucy6lucy »

£36,000 for the winner of this match (excluding the previous £50k we have already earned). This is serious money for Torquay. I'm 100% confident Gary Johnson knows that getting to the 2nd round is 90 minutes away from us fans planning trips to old Trafford, anfield and the buzz factor. COYY we can beat Woking. 2-0 Torquay

Depends on whether, Edwards,Andrews and Hall are available, if they are not then after the Weston and Billericay debacles I am not that confident.

Debacles? Did you witness many performances under Owers and if you did I am struggling to understand how you would describe those games if you think the last two have been debacles?

I wouldn't call draws against two teams who were top of the league debacles. They were encouraging in that we should have won both and disappointing that we didn't.

They’re the strongest team in the league. They’re holding up all the others.

Perhaps debacle was too strong a word, but it doesn't alter the fact that both games should have been won and won comfortably, neither were a close call against a better or more tactically astute team, at Weston first half we were incredibly poor and disjointed by any standards, yes we improved second half and then fell victim to our famous tactic of trying to defend a narrow lead far too deeply and too ineptly. Against Billericay, first half we not only deserved the two goal lead but then come the second half it felt like Owers was back in charge and we tried to sit on our lead again doing it badly.

Have you ever tried to manage a game frm the sidelines?

Surprise, surprise ~ whether your'e Gary Owers Gary Johnson or Jose Mourinho ~ the players don't always do as you want and it goes tits up and the lower you go in football the further tits up it can go.

What you're referring to happens at most clubs in many games over a season; only the very exceptional keep those occurrences to a minimum and rise above the others and what Gary Johnson has to deal with now is exactly what Gary Owers had to deal with from predominantly (give or take a few individuals) the same squad of players.

What Johnson will hope to do is gradually eradicate those occurrences over as short a space of time as he can but don't expect it to happen overnight because it takes time, endless repetitive management and to a certain degree; changes of personnel.

Although it's only Thursday and therefore still time for any new signings I'm assuming there might not be any as Saturday is FA Cup day rather than a league game as any potential new comer(s) could be cup-tied. More likely movements in before either or both Tuesday's match v St Albans and Saturday's v Concord.
I guess what Johnson is really hoping is that all (or most) of Hall, Andrews and Edwards are available.
By the way how long does it take to adjudicate a red card appeal for Nabi?

Andrews is available confirmed himself on Social media. Would be great to have Edwards and Hall available.

yeah a little disappointed that no new players have come in this week especially after johnson's interview, just hoping that they have targets or he knows the players are back for this weekend and is waiting until next week, now we have bodies out it will be easier to get new faces in surely.

need wynter and soliuk to go and get some more cover for the back as we are weak there, a target man would be ideal
