Weymouth FC v TUFC - Saturday 2nd March 2024

Post by TUST_Official »

WEYMOUTH FC OFFER SUPPORT

We are very pleased to announce that Weymouth FC have made an extremely generous offer to help TUST in its fight to ensure the future of our club.

For every away adult ticket sold for our game next Saturday Weymouth will donate £5 to TUST funds.

We have also had an offer of support from the Weymouth FC Supporters Trust.

We encourage as many of the Yellow Army as possible to attend this match. Let's get behind the lads and show our gratitude to Weymouth.

You may also be interested to know that members of Frank O'Farrell's family will be at the game including his Great Grandson who will be a mascot for the day.

See full details of Weymouth's offer below.

Weymouth FC's statement

As many of you will have seen last Thursday 22nd February the news broke that Torquay Utd are set to go into administration. Weymouth Fans will recall ironically that 15 years and 1 day prior the infamous Rushden & Diamonds game and the huge operation that had to be undertaken to save our club. Even in August 2022 we faced the real prospect of going out of business, today we sit in a more stable position but are still recovering block by block.

The Board of Directors met on Thursday night for our monthly Board meeting and inevitably Torquay’s position came up and because of that discussion we have decided along with the support of our Supporters Association that we want to stand with Torquay United and its fans.

As a result, I have spoken with Torquay United Supporters Trust, and I have informed them that for every Adult away ticket sold for next Saturdays fixture we will donate £5 of the adult ticket price £16 to them in aid of their fight. We have set an allocation of 1800 tickets aside for them if anyone has already bought a ticket for the game it will be considered part of the scheme.

Non-league Football is a special place and Clubs need to stick together; we must have rivalry but if Clubs don’t survive, we have nothing. Fans of non-league clubs are more like family to clubs and it’s more than just the results it’s the sense of belonging and sticking together.

To our Fans I know you will see this as a positive thing we are doing, we face our own difficulties daily, but we must stand up and show our support for another Club as many did to us in our hour of need. Let us fill the Bob Lucas next Saturday and show that non-league is alive and kicking and apart from those 90 minutes we are united in our passion for our respective clubs
and their futures.

Fantastic gesture by them.

If we can take 1000 or more that would be great.

Lots of street parking approx half a mile from ground, if you get there in good time, do a small reccy of the area, you'll find plenty.

Thank you Weymouth Football Club. Much appreciated.

Also.......at yesterday's game there were many supporters from other clubs, particularly Plymouth. I made it my business to speak to every one I saw and thank them for coming. It's very heartening how difficult times bring out the best in people.

Again, thank you Weymouth and Plymouth (and supporters of other clubs who came along).

Thanks for the info. With uncertainty remaining as to Osborne and Edwards’ full interpretation of the term ‘essential operational costs’ your owners’ contribution to our TUST is greatly appreciated.

A couple of Dorset-based Chester FC supporters will be in the away end at Weymouth on Saturday because of this initiative.
