Torquay United v Aldershot 10/9/22

Post by North Curry House »

Owing to the whole country mourning the loss of Queen Elizabeth II, it has been decided to postpone all National League games on Saturday.

No news yet on Tuesdays matches.

Ridiculous decision by the FA. Why cancel all football including grassroots kids games. Far better for people to come together, minutes silence, sing national anthem if they want to. Plus many fans will be out of pocket due to hotels, travel etc.

Sensible decision by the FA. The right decision.

Why? Rugby and cricket are going ahead.

I would love for someone to explain how cancelling all kids games over the weekend is the right decision.

It's right because we have just lost our Queen.
For the sake of having to wait for 3 days, surely that's not too much to ask.

I still don’t understand what the relevance is to football, even more so at the grassroots level. Why stop kids from playing a game they enjoy with their friends. Especially the same children whose lives have been so disrupted the last couple of years. What is disrespectful about that?

I can go the pub, shops, cinema or even rugby or cricket but not football. Makes no sense.

This doesn’t happen very often, some people need to get a grip. I think the games will go ahead after this weekend, but it’s the right decision to postpone them if it’s one round of fixtures.

Grassroots shouldn’t be postponed though

I appreciate that there are arguments either way as to whether the games should go ahead but what I find hard to understand is why football is cancelled but other sports are going ahead.

I thought I read earlier that the Queen is a long standing patron of the F.A , not sure she has held that position for other sports and therefore I think it makes sense

An opportune moment to parent your kids around respect

Perhaps you could learn to respect other peoples opinions instead of giving out parenting advice.

Maybe because the FA President is Prince William.

Football was not postponed for the passing away of George V or George VI.
On Saturday all clubs would have observed fitting tributes, such as a minutes silence. Cricket continues. Rugby continues.
Why is football different now than in the 1930's and 1950's.
I have respect for the queen and her long service. I do not see however why she would want her subjects to be disrupted so.
