So Brett`s contract cancelled by mutual consent. Can`t say I`m surprised, this time around he`s failed to deliver the goals he was employed to get. Writing was on the wall when he couldn`t even make the bench. I think the guy has talent so maybe he has an issue applying himself. A dozen clubs in a dozen years tells a story.

I think Johnson is being very shrewd here - Williams was not playing, so there was no point for him or us to just be sat on the bench. This gives him the game time he wants and now we have more wages freed up.

Moral up, wages down. Win win. We may need a little more depth depending on how the season pans out, although with no cup games now, we may be OK. We have the option to dip into the loan market whenever we need to, so all in all smart business by TUFC in these last couple of weeks.

Perhaps we`re preoccupied with Bath City FC on Saturday, nonetheless I`m amused at the total lack of reaction to Brett`s departure, particularly from some posters who applauded his arrival like the second coming of the Messiah.

Not sure who you're aiming your comment at as I don't recall anyone rejoicing the way you mentioned. The simple fact is we never played to his strengths, he never hit the heights BUT a club higher up the pyramid than us have signed him. Definitely a player with talent but seldom had the application to go with it. Onwards and upwards.

Come on Dave they will know who they are...however, in truth I`m not taking cheap shots at my fellow fans that`s not the purpose of my post. I`m just flagging up that there were a number of fans who thought Brett would be the answer to our prayers, when in fact his signing was more likely a cynical attempt by Owers to win fan favour, hell he even made him captain in a futile attempt get more out of him. The thrust of my post is that he under performed and now he`s gone and nobody seems to have an opinion, good bad or indifferent. The news is now 24 hours old and you`re one of only two fans to comment. I rest my case.

What do you want everyone on the forum to comment how they will miss/not miss him. The fact of the matter he has massively under achieved this season, for various reasons. Though I did actually like him as a player, I’m more interested in the new contracts being given out and the quartet of Bristol lads staying until the end of the season as these guys are why we are top.

To be fair there aren't many fans still criticising Osborne now that we're winning games so it doesn't surprise me that few have mentioned he's left. As for being made captain well that was just another uninspiring move by Owers.

Fans are fickle, a few wins against dire opposition and everyone seems to be happy. I'm enjoying seeing us win games but it's not lost on me that we had to drop to our lowest ever level as a professional club to do it. My eyes are firmly fixed on Osborne and his plans.

Having looked back the the thread announcing his signing last January, the reaction is more tempered than I remember. Much more tempered than at Moss Rose in his first game back. There he really was treated like the returning messiah, there were supporters talking to each other about how he was a brilliant player who would bang the goals in.

My post from the match day thread that day sums up my feelings:
Given the hype and the vocal expectation in the stand I thought Williams contributed about as much to the game as Reid. He had a couple of off target attempts and gave away the ball a couple of times. All in all I don't think he did very much while he was on, I'd start him ahead of Reid next time but only because he can't possibly be offer any less.

I don't think I heralded the arrival of Brett Williams, but after the telling and painful way Williams punished us for our decision to let him go the first time, destroying us with a hat-trick at Bromley, I thought his return was a positive move. We needed a goal scorer, he had a proven record even though his work rate was questionable. When we entered into the abyss of regional football I think we all thought that someone of Williams calibre would have no problems putting the ball into the back of the net. But that was not to happen, which may have been down to Ower's 'park the bus' tactic's.

Johnson then comes 'bouncing around the ground' with his magic wand and we are all of a sudden one of the best counter-pressing sides in the league with his tactic's of high energy, fast pace, and a high line. A players work rate requirement for this type of game was one step too far for Brett to keep up with and hence he could no longer command a regular place. As a Journeyman, one who has never realised his full potential, I think Brett knew it was time to take another journey to prolong his career. While I thank him for his service and wish him good luck at Sutton, I don't think his time at Torquay will be written into the annuals of history given where we were and where we went during his time with us. That may be a big part of why it is not a more talked about topic on this forum.

I was at that game, very late January last year. Romain scored a proper poacher goal. The lads played well that game, but without fire power. As soon as we equalised, with 10 minutes to go we should have gone for the win but typically owers wanted the draw
