I wasn't in a great position to judge but not sure why it took a good minute and a discussion with the ref after the goal was scored to make the decision. Glad it didn't matter too much in the end, if anything it spurred the lads on more.

Once again we see another whistle happy ref with an inability to let the game flow, very frustrating.

Pleased with the performance today, true determination shown and everyone played their part. It ain't over yet! COYY!!!
Reference the offside

*My view was that Keating headed the ball forward towards Williams - who looked offisde.
*The ball never made it to Williams and a mix up between 2 braintree defenders and the ball goes forward off a braintree player.
*Williams goes through and scores.
*Looks like the lino had made his mind up already before the ref went over.

The only thing i can think off is that the lino has deemed Williams 'active' when Keating headed it forward and his presence contrived for the Braintree mix up.

Why he didnt raise his flag before this i dont know, looked a poor decision though

What a great atmosphere - I said before the game that we needed the 12th man effect and they had it in spades. The support even when we went behind hardly wavered and towards the end Plainmoor was rocking.

All the players responded brilliantly - shame the officials could not also - at one stage I thought both sets of fans were going to boil over because of the rubbish decisions from the referee.

We lined up 4-3-3 and for the first time in ages I thought it worked, once we had found our mojo - I think the disallowed goal and the incompetent way the officials dealt with it really motivated the team and the result was rarely in doubt after that. The only thing I was worried about was the squandering of chances - we had 15 attempts and 9 on target but at one stage I thought we would be made to pay for our poor conversion rate and the woodwork did save us when we were 2-1 up.

However, we eventually got the two clear goals thanks to the generally excellent Jordan Lee and Brett Williams (my MOTM) who had a storming game throughout.

If we still go down at least I will have the memory of what football at Plainmoor can sometimes bring - passion, atmosphere, controversy and drama. Things that have been missing all too often this season.

Well done to Nicho and the team - go out and do it just twice more please guys!

Just home from a good day out at Plainmoor. The team gave their all in a very good performance. Well deserved win, against the odds and with a set of officials who I can only describe as clueless. Williams was robbed of a goal by an inept linesman and even more inept referee. Still, a good win and I am over the moon. The team deserve a big pat on the back, still alive.

The ground was buzzing and stuck with them right to the end cheering our lads to an all important third goal. It was great to be part of such a partisan crowd.

The front three of Williams, Keating and Reid worked tirelessly.

Special mention to the stewards as well who allowed the supporter who ran onto the pitch when we scored to be dragged back onto the popside by the celebrating fans. It was a common sense decision that, although against the rule book, stopped things from turning sour like the other week. Fair play.

What's this about a Braintree fan ripping the net apart.

I wasn't there and you were; BUT.......

If Williams was offside following Keates header earlier in the move; play carried on and then he ends up putting it in the net the lino is quite correct to flag and draw the referee's attention to that FACT

The current interpretation of the law deems that he keeps that instance in his mind and draws the referee's attention that a player has come back from an offside position having taken an active part in the play leading up to the goal . The law as it currently stands is thus the culprit and cause of many a late flag because the linesman is under instruction to hold his flag down unless needed later thus bringing shit loads of abuse down on him. I was only discussing this with a lino and ref after a Ryman League game yesterday and they said that to a man (and lady) they all regret the day the interpretation was ever brought in.

But brought in it was and they have no option but to administer the law as it is written........it's not their fault!

Yes. He got angry when Young went to collect the ball from the back of the net. I think Youngy wound him up which is why he got booked. The guy was escorted out - it took four stewards to get him under control.

Incidentally, Young then threw his water bottle at the feet of the fourth official - not sure it was accidental - hope he doesn't get reported.

When we equalised, think a Torquay player tried to get the ball back from behind the net, some sort of rumpus between him and an extremely overweight away supporter, didn't see how the net was damaged. But was quite fun to watch the stewards struggling to throw (well maybe escort) the Braintree guy out. He was a big boy.

According to Chris Fleet the lino had not raised his flag when the ball went in. Now I am not sure how long before this that Williams had possession of the ball and if the lino had enough time to raise his flag.

See my post above as to what possibly might have been the reason. Remember the officials are 'mic'd' up and so could well be in communication even though the flag has not been used.

He had enough time to raise the flag, enough for Williams to take a few touches and make a short run before slotting it past the keeper. As I say i'm not sure about the decision, I couldn't see, but the delay between the first touch and the flag going up seemed excessive and unusual to me.

It took about two minutes from the ball hitting the net to the goal being disallowed. My own opinion is that it was offside, but the manner of the decision was plain bizarre.

Re the net - the keeper pushed Young through the net, which caused the altercation with the fan.

Not sure about two minutes, but it was a bloody long time, so it could have been. Yes, it seemed utterly bizarre. It seemed very telling to me that neither the Braintree supporters nor the players seemed to think anything was wrong. Only after the lino raised his flag a minute or two later did any of them start arguing about the goal. A very strange incident.

Re. the referee, what summed up his performance for me was his behaviour at the end of the game.

The ball was down at our end, I think it might have been with Moore and the ref was also at that end of the pitch. It was cleared towards half way, the ref blew his whistle and started to scarper just like that South African rugby ref did in the rugby World Cup. It looked as if he thought it was either the last match of the season or there was going to be an invasion. He was well on the way to the 'tunnel' when he had second thoughts and stopped. The linesmen then caught up with him, he waited a short while and then marched them off to a chorus of boos from the normally somnolent Bristow's Bench. I'm not sure if many players got to shake his hand as is normal after a game.

Make of that what you will.
