Where do you get the notion that they wouldn't be guaranteed a start?

Who says we want to loan these players to Conference clubs? We have a strong recent history of loaning our players to the likes of Bideford. It's extremely likely that we could loan our players to conference clubs, but we choose not to.

Matt, I'm going to ignore the rest of your post because it simply bears no relevance to my question. On loans, what possible reason could we have for not wanting any of our players to leave on loan or permanently to the highest level possible? After all, there's a reason Charlton loaned Azeez to us not Tooting and Mitcham. Three Torquay United managers thought it right to give Yeoman a professional contract, he went some way to proving them right with two Football League goals last season, and yet there's a suggestion a stint at Bideford might be the best step for his career.

The post above mentioned 'Also with us loaning to the lower leagues we know they will get played', also when was the last time we loaned someone to the BSP and they played? Can't think of any at the moment, they always end up in Southern Prem at best. in some cases they haven't even got in the side at that level.

And there's also a reason that Azeez wasn't loaned to Crawley, after all, why would Charlton not want to loan him to the highest level possible?
There could be a thousand reasons, maybe the clubs with whom we are happy to deal won't accept our terms. Perhaps no Conference clubs wanted him. Perhaps the player wasn't willing to go to the Conference club which came in for him. Maybe maybe maybe. There's no reason to believe that any of our players are on loan to the BSS bard on ability alone.

And there are all sorts of reasons that loanees wouldn't get into any side. Form, formation, opposition, undisclosed injury, poor attitude, anything.
If only football was really as simple as the common Torquay fan seems to think it is, what a world (actually quite boring) it would be.

Haven't checked previous posts as to whether this has been said so far, but it just does seem strange that after the poor form of our team, that 3 of our players are on International call up......

..... why are they being called up for International duty if they are playing so poor for us in a team showing poor form (whatever the circumstances) ?

Is it that, although they are performing poorly for us, that their International coach believes that they can still be better for their country ? Is that the particular national teams involved are that poor that they have no choice but to include players from such an out of form team ? These are extreme questions that probably show some ignorance, but I tell you...... I do not understand !

2. Callum Thompson - not ready for league action quite yet but obviously seen as a capable under 21 'keeper
3. Anthony O'Connor - loan signing. We've only seen him once of course but looks a very mature player comfortable on the ball.

Also - they've been called up for Wales, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland Under 21s - not Spain, France or Brazil. Hope that gives you a bit of an explanation ....... !!

Good answer. The next question comes to mind therefore might be, at our best at present, which International U21 team could TUFC beat ? France, Spain, Brazil, Wales, NI, England, Scotland, NI, ROI, Estonia......etc....

Wales U21 lost to San Marino, tells you what sort of level their players are at. Probably conference.

It's international U21 football. It's less about picking players in form to win the next game, more about picking the best young players you have and grooming them in to a team to one day make the step up to full internationals.

What a difference a year makes under Martin Ling, Nathan Craig was on international calls with Bodin and we could have postponed Saturdays game, as Thompson has gone with Ireland. Knill should wake up as I know some managers with contacts would have phone the Welsh manager to take him just to get the game off. What can you do when you have not played the lad yourself.

The problem nations like Wales have is the lack of strength in depth, if players are deemed good enough they go in to the senior squad, their junior levels are really just made up of eligible players playing at the highest level. I think Bodin is there because he plays regular League football more than any latent talent, that and his Dad!
