The Government has responded to the petition “Invoke Article 50 of The Lisbon Treaty immediately.”

Government responded:

The British people have voted to leave the EU and their will must be respected and delivered. The process for leaving the EU and determining our future relationship will be a complex one, so we need to take time to think through our objectives and approach. We want to ensure the best possible outcome for Britain and the future UK-EU relationship. As part of this, the government will of course work closely with the devolved administrations to ensure we get the best deal for the UK as a whole. We should not trigger Article 50 until we have a UK approach and objectives, so Article 50 should not be invoked before the end of this year.

Department for Exiting the European Union

This petition has over 100,000 signatures. The Petitions Committee will consider it for a debate. They can also gather further evidence and press the government for action.

The Committee is made up of 11 MPs, from political parties in government and in opposition. It is entirely independent of the Government. Find out more about the Committee: https://petition.parliament.uk/help#petitions-committee

Yes exactly! It beggars belief that somebody actually put forward this petition and more than that that over 100,000 signed it! ;-)

I agree. Brexit means Brexit, but, while there must be no unnecessary delay, that doesn't mean we must be too hasty. The EU will be desperate for a deal. We don't really need one. :)

Thanks to Canburne for this report from April 2016:

The British Royal Navy is proud to announce its new fleet of Type 45 Destroyers: Having initially named the first two ships HMS Daring and HMS Dauntless, the Naming Committee has, after intensive pressure from the European Union in Brussels, renamed them HMS Cautious and HMS Prudence.

The next five ships are to be HMS Empathy, HMS Circumspect, HMS Nervous, HMS Timorous and HMS Apologist. Costing £850 million each, they comply with the very latest employment, equality, health and safety and human rights laws.

The Royal Navy fully expects any future enemy to be jolly decent and to comply with the same high standards of behaviour.

The new user-friendly crow's nest has excellent wheelchair access. Live ammunition has been replaced with paintballs to reduce the risk of anyone getting hurt and to cut down on the number of compensation claims.

Stress counsellors and lawyers will be on board, as will a full sympathetic industrial tribunal. The crew will be 50/50 men and women, and will contain the correct balance of race, gender, sexuality and disability.

Sailors will only work a maximum of 37 hours per week as per Brussels Rules on Working Hours, even in wartime. All the vessels are equipped with a maternity ward, a creche and a gay disco. Tobacco will be banned throughout the ship but recreational cannabis will be allowed in wardrooms and messes.

The RN is eager to shed its traditional reputation for "Rum, sodomy and the lash", so the rum ration has gone, replaced by sparkling water. Sodomy remains, now extended to include all ratings over 18. The lash will still be available on request.

Saluting of officers is now considered elitist and has been replaced by "Hello Sailor". All information on notice boards will be in 37 different languages and Braille.

Crew members will now no longer have to ask permission to grow beards and/or moustaches. This applies equally to female crew. The MoD is inviting suggestions a "non-specific" flag because the White Ensign may offend minorities. The Union Jack must never be seen.

The newly re-named HMS Cautious will be commissioned shortly by Captain Hook from the Finsbury Park Mosque who will break a petrol bomb over the hull. She will gently slide into the sea as the Royal Marines Band plays the Village People's "In the Navy". Her first deployment will be to escort boatloads of illegal immigrants to ports on England's south coast.

The Prime Minister said, 'Our ships reflect the very latest in modern thinking and they will always be able to comply with any new legislation from Brussels".

His final words were, "Britannia waives the rules.”

Thank God (and David Cameron) for the referendum..!!

Interesting programme on BBC Radio 4 about the referendum and Brexit. Whilst the presenter does come across as a Remainer, she gives a remarkably balanced picture. Notwithstanding the omission of any mention of the sovereignty argument, unusually, I have to say: well done BBC. I doubt we shall ever hear such an unbiased BBC radio programme again (I gave up on their television programmes ages ago). http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07pgw3k :)

I said on day 1 it was not going to happen, so no surprise really! You should have just listened to me. ;-)

Mind you, there was some idiot on the radio today proposing that we drop the metric weights system in favour of that 'makes-no-sense-at-all-but-the-Roman's-don't-like-it' Imperial system.

Somebody will be proposing we go back to £sd next! :-|

There will be some form of Brexit. Both May and Corbyn are only to well aware of one main reason for the Brexit vote, which was the little man on the street is fed up of his voice not being heard, ignored by arrogant politicians, that want to control not serve, now some with in the palace of Westminster want to ignore 17.4 million people on over turn Brexit, when will they ever learn.

Both May and Corbyn know to ignore the Brexit vote is likely to damage the political elite in this country irreversibly, nether are goin to let that happen. We only have to cast our eyes around Europe to see the damage that can be done when political leaders do not, and will not listen to their people.

The far right wing candidate will win the Austrian presidential election, he won it first time around until the establishment fixed the result, the Italian freedom party made massive gains in local elections, the Dutch freedom party led by neo-nazi Geert Wilders topped opinion polls back in January, Merkel was beaten in her own back yard in the state elections by the far right wing AFD, Hollande will lose in next years elections, people right across Europe do not want the EU forced on us by the establishment to control YOU, it's not what any of us ever voted for, we voted for free trade.

Makes me laugh how people still talk about vote leaves, lies, like remain didn't lie, or try to fool us, bit by bit, week, by week, remains project fear is crumbling, and being exposed for it was, one massive great lie, and still they're trying peddle it. lets have a look at the evidence.

Unemployment; They said this would rise to unthinkable levels if voted leave, unemployment fell by 8,600 in July and continues to fall.

Germany; Out means out, you leave we'll punish you, German finance minster since admitted, Osbourne asked him for help and to say that, Germany now talking about a special relationship with post Brexit Britain. As some of us said all the way along, 750,000 German jobs depend on it, in their best interest's, the merger between London and German stock exchange still going ahead.

FTSE 100/250 and the £; This would crash to record lows levels never to be seen again, yes they fell, but a shock caused by our own government, Osbourne paid with his job, once realized all has recovered.

U.S.A: Obama said the UK will be at the back of the queue, oh really, Obama has since when questioned refused to repeat that, in fact all talk state side, is, of an U.S.A-UK trade deal possibly being in place prior to any EU-U.S.A trade deal.

Recession; would happen they told, not going to happen in reality, retail sales up by 5.9% since Brexit vote, all other indicators up.

Banking sector; This will collapse, everyone will leave London and move to the EU, oops another whopper there, Wells Fargo are investing £300 million in a new European HQ , in , really , no, surely not, yes London.

Company closures; will reach record levels they told us, more new company start ups since Brexit vote, yep, another lie there.

The jungle camp; Will be moved fro Calais to Kent overnight, the French have said that's not going happen, and never was. Someone's nose seems to be growing.

Isolation; We'd be left on our own in the world, dear oh dear, 26 countries have asked for trade talks with the free and independent UK, hardly a surprise when you have the 5th largest economy in the world, some of us did try a say this.

World war 3; Still waiting.

Emergency budget; The country will have to take massive tax rises to pay for Brexit, wasn't true, maybe the biggest lie of lot.

I could go on and on, think I'd bore myself let everyone else.

Vote remain was based on lie, after lie, fear stacked on fear, all design to scare you into voting to remain in the EU, just so they could continue to control the little people. Being proved by the week.

Not sure in the name of sanity why anyone would want to stay in the EU , which is seeing is economy shrink, as well as it's power base.

Some of us saw straight through project fear, some of us were not gullible enough to fall for the remain lies, we knew the truth would out in the end, but despite good news after good news coming to the fore, the remain campaign are still spreading fear, still trying to get the EU to 'do things' and 'say things' in a desperate bid to prove they were right all the way along.

Even the Bank of England, have now found, they have no other choice but to tell the truth.

http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/711168 ... ive-Brexit

Actually, bring a second referendum, my feeling is, vote leave would win by a massive margin a second time around.

I'm not so sure Brexit would win a second vote. The doom and gloom brigade caused a few ripples of doubt but for me the most important thing about Brexit was retaining our sovereignty. From that platform the fight is still winnable but it does need to gain momentum and support or it will all be a waste of time and effort.

I actually had a discussion with someone who listed Saudi as a viable place to go to escape the oppression of globalist supporting governments, that's how deluded some people are.

Not that incredible. We have a Tory government, whilst most of those in power seem primarily concerned with their own interests the Tories are worse than most. Of course they support TTIP, they see it as a way to line their pockets...
