Torquay or China - where should government money for grassroots football go?

Post by RichyMills »

Afternoon all.

I got a bit pissed off that while clubs like Torquay might be struggling financially our government would be chucking £3m at grassroots football in China, justified by saying it would bring money back into the "UK football sector" by which they meant the premier league. It's likely the money is a sweetener for trade deals too so why label it for "grassroots"?

That money would sort out United's problems and also loads of other lower league clubs so why not invest here?

I wrote to my MP about it as I think it's letting down clubs and communities. The example in the letter is Torquay but there are other teams it could apply too. I haven't shown my working in the blog/letter but basically intook what the chairman has said about what gates needed to be, looked at the difference for the games where gates dropped, multiplied by an average ticket price and then by the number of games remaining to come up with a figure for the shortfall. It's not scientific but maybe not far off.

Is there any point? Dunno but it's worth a go.
