Farewell Alfredo Di Stefano

Post by tomogull »

One of my earliest memories of watching a football match on the tele was back in 1960 (Gawd - that ages me!) when Real Madrid hit the football scene with the annihilation of Eintrach Frankfurt by 7 - 3 in the European Cup Final (now the Champions League). Eintrach were quite a decent side at that time. Back then, all we had was a flickering black and white TV set but even with a poor picture, we could see what a great player Di Stefano was. He scored a hat-trick that night and his strike partner, Ferenc Puskas, scored the other four. It was one of those matches that those who watched it will always remember. Di Stefano is right up there amongst the great players - some even say he was the most complete player of all time.

Alfredo Di Stefano died on Monday on the eve of another incredible match which will stay in the memory and another 7 goals scored by the winning side - Germany v Brazil of course. RIP Di Stefano.
