EmetEdadsbeard (and a few others) still think that to be anti-feminist is to be anti-women, when it's not the same thing at all, and in fact more and more women, having come to understand the true nature of modern ideological feminism, are now decidedly anti-feminist.

And he seems to believe that an education is a guarantee against stupidity, idiocy, bigotry, egotism, prejudice, and ideological indoctrination. Like most people with closed minds he may never see the light, but it's gratifying to know that, if he (and they) will not be persuaded, at least my posts on the subject have been understood and appreciated by others.. :)

His condition will be relieved, if not cured, if he views some of my recommended films on this thread. Sadly, he will probably not do so as he may never see this post, and so may never fully gain illumination and enlightenment. :(

American Hustle - Very over-rated film. All the hype and media attention, Oscar nominations etc, had me really looking forward to this and I was a bit disappointed. Despite the cool retro look, a great cast, Jennifer lawrence looking stunning and a decent ending, it just didnt really do it for me. The story was a bit simple and I felt like I had seen it all before. I dont get why this film has had so much so called critical acclaim and attention. As Public Enemy said, Dont believe The Hype! 6/10

Don Jon - A funny, engaging, relatable film to most blokes at first, then halfway the pace drops and becomes a bit more serious and about relationships. A simple story about a Jack The lad who is a major bird puller (Playa) who manages to add many a notch to his bedpost on a regular basis, but he is addicted to porn and no female can break his addiction, porn gives him something the ladies just cant. Some good food for thought in there with some fantastic chucklesome dialogue at times. Joseph Gordon Levitt puts in a great performance as the lead, he has certainly come a long way from being that little kid in 3rd Rock From The Sun. Scarlett Johansson looks gorgeous, but not sure about her character in the film. 7/10

This film brings up a subject which divides opinion in many walks of life, you either love porn or you hate it. There have been quite a few documentaries in recent times shedding light on the statistics, especially with the accessability of the internet of just how many people watch porn, how often, and what age groups. Young people, children especially apparently watch porn, even under 10's, which is a huge concern because porn isnt real and it could lead to children having an unhealthy attitude to sex. My young son informs me some of his mates watch porn online, which I admit I was gobsmacked at. I keep hearing the expression in films like this, in the documentaries and in real life, "Oh, everybody watches porn!". Really?

The Powder Room - Based on a stage play depicting the events of a usual girls night out, featuring the ups and downs of a woman who is caught between 2 different social groups. A decent lead role from the always reliable, very talented Sheridan Smith. The main feature of this is the situations and conversations which occur in the ladies toilets, which were amusing and probably typical, if not a bit reserved. From what I have been told it is much worse. I remember with a giggle a story when I was first courting the wife and I brought her out on the p!$$ with my social group, a couple of the ladies which were friends of mine, walked into the female toilets, whilst touching up their make up slagged my wife (then new squeeze) off completely and then shat theirselves when she stepped out of a cubicle, glared at them and said "dont stop on my account". Like something out of a film. It was only for my benefit that she resisted knocking them both out, because believe me, "that bitch dont play". 6.5/10

The Butler – Wow! I thought this would be over-long and boring, but I was wrong.

A really good film, with highs and lows, you learn a bit about American history and the changes in racial equality in the past 80 years. You see how black people were treated in the last days of slavery, the racist treatment many suffered over the decades even in more recent times, the civil rights movement and many more eras.

The basic premise of the film was taken from the real life memoirs written by a butler serving many US Presidents over decades working in The White House. At times the film is an emotional rollercoaster, sometimes sad, shocking, funny, uplifting, thought provoking and even happy.

A brilliant cast, including one of the last performances from Robin Williams as President Eisenhower. All the turns as US Presidents were very good, Alan Rickman and Jane Fonda as the Reagans anyone, inspired. The Kennedy assassination section was very well done also.

Being White British the events of this film are hardly anything to do with my origin or creed or is it, what if the boot was on the other foot. I felt so bad and so angry at times watching this, the racism of many white Americans during these times was sickening, the way that they treated people because of the colour of their skin was disgraceful. America should be deeply ashamed of itself for what went on. The ignorance and stupidity of the white American people when they say they dont want the black people there exclaiming that they dont belong, and the whites vent their contempt and hatred towards them, this makes their ways and beliefs look really stupid. When you think about it, it was their ancestors which enslaved the black people and kidnapped them from the countries of their origin against their will, they had no choice but to be there. Plus, apart from the Native American Indians, all the yanks are immigrants and from other origins,no such thing as a real American, apart from yet again another ethinic group that many over there oppress. The section of the film during the 50's and 60's was particularly enraging and galling, when you think we had just had ww2 and there they were treating their own people in a manner not even befitting the worst kind of criminal, oppressing innocents in a way no better than what the Nazis had done to so many. When you think how even then the Americans passed judgement on others and told other countries how to behave and live, they stuck their nose into other countries matters and oppression of this kind and on this level was going on in their own country. Even into the 1980s when the world was rightly getting on South Africas back, many things were wrong with America and nobody said bugger all.

Anyway, watch this film! 9/10

'Fury'? Don't bother. It's technically well done but it's comic book crap, predictable, unoriginal and cliché-ridden. I could write a long list of criticisms, but among other things its depiction of WW2 soldiers is woefully inaccurate in its stereotypical approach. Disappointing.

If you want to watch a great film set in WW2, watch 'The Imitation Game'. This film also has inaccuracies (for example, Keira Knightley's character, Joan Clark, is nothing like the real Joan Clark) but these are, unlike those in 'Fury', not jarring and make for a more effective film, partly due to the excellent acting, from Knightley (who is not the world's greatest), Benedict Cumberbatch (idiot though he is) and all the supporting cast.

In short, 'Fury' is for 10-year-old boys and 'The Imitation Game' is for adults.

'The Imitation Game' trailer is in my earlier post. 'Fury' trailer here:
