Torquay United are 'not rubbish anymore', says Gulls boss ~ and neither is the club's management. It's not rocket science to work out just why they were rubbish is it!

Nope it isn't. No budget, no backup blah blah, the reasons are still obvious. Obviously being their own man they've backed Gary Owers and now that we're runaway leaders it's all so patently clear!!

Just sit behind them and compare Owers and Kuhl with Dumb and Dumber. Compare the fitness standards and degree of pressing, closing down and bloccking. The shape of the side and the rapid movement of the ball when in possession. That doesn't cost money; it doesn't need 'back up'; what it needs is someone to put it into practice having got the players' fitness up to appropriate levels and their understanding of the game up to scratch.

Looks like Merse is right.

Would you give money to a management team that had contracts and the team not performing. It's still early days but the signs are there that we could get out of this mess I thought at the start of the season we looked better than last season after the Tranmere game but things just got worse and that is because of a lack of quality and ideas.

We have seen an improvement of in of the crowds whipping boys and the management team has got to take credit for that.

In all fairness to Merse he has been banging on about this for ages and has been proved right. Merse won't have heard this as he was at the match but the Radio Devon Summariser last night (Is it Joan Cardoghan??) alluded to the same thing in so far as we had more experience in the dugouts than Ebbsfleet did. He also detailed what a good job Owers and Kuhl were doing during the match which actually instilled confidence as you were listening to the game.

It was palpable that Torquay had raised their game at the start of the second half and you could actually sense that a goal was coming. The results have not been immediate but slowly we have improved and the team seems light years away from the one which included the likes of Anderson and Chaney earlier in the season.

What a refreshing change to have a Head Coach who not only has the ability to a) recognise the importance of putting players in their best positions and b) can have more than just a tired old formation/style of play and c) has more than just Plan A and d) goes to watch matches (Dave Hedges will be without a role soon!) but also says it how it is in his pre and post match interviews.
He and Kuhl are streets ahead of any recent previous management teams at TQ1.

As I said on another thread Gary Owers and Martin Kuhl are by a distance the best Management Team I have seen at Plainmoor in a long long time.
I also like what Gary says after each game in the Press Conference. He pulls no punches and the players respect him which is hugely important in Football.
The key is they know how to set the team up and they are addressing all the issues which were clear to the fans. For example do not play players out of position, explain to Sean McGinty he must not lump it ALL the time, and knowing how to change the shape if necessary during the game.
This sea change has been achieved in just 39 days from Sat 16th Sept at Barrow until yesterday. Whats more it has been achieved with just 3 loan additions Evans, Murphy and McQuoid.
Hat off to you guys you are doing a great job and long may it continue.

I was sat just along from John Cadigan and the commentator last night; just behind the technical area and not far from Geoff Harrop so I feel I can state this with some authority........

You see relatively nothing singing and dancing away behind the goal in comparison do you; yet that is the favoured position of the Plainmoor hierarchy for home games. How unprofessional is that?

Nicholson has been imparting his dubious knowledge of football management in the Non League Paper this week and bangs on about reading books, aping an NFL coach and driving another one. FFS!

He'd be better served to sit behind Owers & Kuhl for a few matches and see how games are properly managed, teams properly set up and the levels of fitness they now have his old bunch of cart horses performing at!

The correct answer bixie is 7 points from 4 games.BBC rarely get it right.
2 wins, one draw at Halifax and lost at home to Dover.

I was thinking the same, even with a Dover defeat. But who cares, this team is changing into a winning one. Best to say 4 points from 6. At this rate we will be promoted
