Great news, considering he's Torquay born and bred

There's a joke in there about our keepers being called Clarke and Osborne but I can't quite put one together yet...

Great to have a second keeper in the ranks thats young and has the desire to push on, can only be good for Clarke to have competition and someone aspiring to train with.

Competition for every position. A shrewd move from the coaching team at Plainmoor.

Clark - Osborn will save our club!

Life is like TUFC. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. :goal:

Barrow AFC also signed their second goalkeeper today. Mr Stuart Moore.

Does that mean it doesn't if he's shit, as long as he has some connection with Torquay?

It simply states he was bought by Southampton when in our academy at what was a good financial deal. The fact he has no doubt gained valuable experience, and we get him back as a number 2 is the best we could have hoped. The fact he is local, simply implies he will be comfortable in the area and have commitment to the club.

This looks to be a promising signing. He'll have had good youth coaching at Southampton, and is now back at his hometown side aged 18 and in search of first team football. Even if he starts as second choice to Clarke as he surely will, he's looking to develop and that's got to be better than having someone just sat in the stands each week, waiting for an injury. Like Luke Young, geography has worked in our favour for a change and we've got an interesting option for a squad position that's offered absolutely nothing to us for years and years.

And I know being local doesn't actually matter, and you'd rather have a good Yorkshireman than an average Torquinian, but it is still nice to see a local player playing for TUFC. The vast majority of our fans grew up in the bay, and dreamed of playing for the club - so it's something to relate to, even if meaningless once they step onto the pitch.

The fact that is relevant is that if we want a youth team, then getting talented local players into the club's academy and having a pathway into the first team squad is the only way to do it. Osborn, following on from Lavercombe, is an example of what can happen if this goes well.
