Boss blames Dan Butler for his sacking.

A moment of madness from Dan ultimately sealed Newport County's manager Warren Fenney fate according to the South Wales Argus. Clink link:

So what now for Dan (a real TU crowd favourite,). New manger Graham Westley keeps him on the subs bench on Sat, and the club languishing bottom of the league and odds on favourites to be in the conference next season. If Newport do drop there will be plenty of players surplus to requirements and if Dan were one of the them, I am sure a special players fund would be started to try and get him back to Torquay

He'd be mad to come back here though, he can do a job in League Two. He was only ever here for the Paul Cox project in the first place, the murky background to which we're still not sure of - Cox was clearly promised more than he received by someone, either inside or outside the club.

We could sure do with the width he offers. Having him bombing up the left hand side would solve the main problem we had yesterday, and do whenever we're playing a narrow diamond.

Graham Westley is renowned for bringing in his own guys that buy into his style, so there's a chance he might not like Butler or want someone else at left back. As ever the problem is that we couldn't afford him. With the end of emergency loans in the Football League no one above the Conference could sign him until January, which is the only slim hope we'd have, but even then Westley can't replace him until January, so is unlikely to let anyone leave before then, and we'd only stand a chance then if a) Westley wanted him out and b) no one else wanted him.

Possibly worth a phone call for a 2 month loan, but I can't see it happening.

What's really odd about this is that the manager chap is saying things like, "he's a defender, he's got to defend first, attack second". Why on Earth do you sign Dan Butler if you want that sort of player? The very reason you sign Butler is because you want a slightly harebrained Isle of Wighter with a great left foot and virtually no defensive qualities whatsoever.

Bizarre that they'd sign him, then try to change him completely, then act surprised when he didn't manage it.

Matt.
