Can anyone provide information on John Connaughton?

Post by Tower Of Song »

I'm an Altrincham FC supporter who is writing an article for our match programme pertaining to our former goalkeeper, John Connaughton.

I would be obliged if anyone could supply me with any statistical data regarding his career with Torquay United.

I believe that he joined the Gulls on loan from Manchester United circa October 1971?

When did he make his Torquay United debut and who were the opposition?

How many appearances did he make for Torquay United in total?

Any particular reminiscences about John Connaughton's days at Plainmoor?

All information welcome!

Many thanks for your assistance, in anticipation.

He made 22 appearances for Torquay and he was on loan from Man U in the 71-72 season but i'm not sure about the rest as startd to watch the gulls in 79. But I am sure other members will know the answers to your question.

John Connaughton made his debut on 22/10/1971 in an away match at Tranmere Rovers which we lost 0 - 2. His final game was on 1/4/1972 in a memorable home 2 - 1 win over Plymouth Argyle in front of a crowd of over 11,000
