FC Halifax v Torquay

Post by Dave »

After welcome back to back wins last week, The Gulls squad travel to Yorkshire for the clubs last away game of the season. FC Halifax will, despite their part time status perhaps be a little disappointed with their season this time around, last season their first back in the non-league top flight since reforming, FC Halifax gained a 5th place finish and a play-off semi-final against eventual winners Cambridge United.

FC Halifax managed by Neil Aspin, Aspin a defender who enjoyed a long career spanning 618 games , in the main for Leeds United and Port Vale has done a fantastic job of making the Shaymen hard to beat in general over the last two seasons, since the turn of the year FC Halifax have become the conference draw specialists, with Nine drawn games from their last thirteen outings, FC Halifax will certainly provide much tougher opponents than what our squad faced in the last two home games, FC Halifax will believe they're slight favourites to win this game.

For Gulls fans attending the game

Featured FC Halifax player

Paul Marshall; Position Midfielder, born 9th July 1989, Paul started his career in the youth ranks at Manchester City enjoying 3 matchs for England at U20 level, however made no senior appearances for City, in 2010 Paul Marshall signed for Walsall after loans spells at Blackpool, Port Vale and Aberdeen, however Marshall's time with the Saddlers was short lived, released after 22 games, Paul Marshall seemed to struggle with his career for while, having an unsuccessful trial with Rochdale and short spells with Droylsden and Port Vale, he joined FC Halifax 2012 and played an initial 19 games before moving once again to Stockport, Marshall would finally settle at FC Halifax in 2013 and has played 56 games scoring 5 times, this season Marshall has scored 3 times, has 3 assists and 4 yellows cards.

On Tuesday's home defeat; http://www.halifaxafc.co.uk/news/articl ... 52455.aspx

“ I wouldn’t question the player’s attitude and commitment; I didn’t see anyone not trying or not prepared to chase back and anybody who was not prepared to put in a shift in terms of effort.”

From a Torquay point of view

This weeks wins against Altrincham and Lincoln have been very welcome, and taken some pressure off the players and manager, however us fans still can't wait to see the end of what has been by and large a very poor season, we've done well against sides in the top half, but results against sides in the bottom half have destroyed this campaign and any chance of quick return to the football league.

Tuesday game, players individually put the right effort in, but the lack of quality in anything the team did was there for all to see, and the very few times Lincoln did test our back line, they looked shaky to say the least, one positive for me was my first view of young Dan Lavercombe , confident, clam under pressure, but the biggest plus for me was, when Dan had a shot down to his left, it was great to see young keeper dive down and hold the ball two handed, so many keepers at this level would have parried that and left their team in trouble, this lad certainly has potential, is he ready for the no1 shirt, to early for me.

As far as I know, other than Ryan Bowman who's season is over and other long term injuries, Chris Hargreaves should have a fully fit and available squad to pick from.

on Tuesday win; http://www.torquayheraldexpress.co.uk/T ... story.html

"I thought it was a good performance in a real difficult game because Lincoln are so direct and that's very difficult to play against.

Would be great to get another win today and keep the momentum and improvement going. However this game is a tough ask , particularly after travelling up on the day! Apparently the pitch is in pretty poor shape as well. Wondering if Yeoman will start after Tuesday's goal which was a great take and finish.

Lavercombe pulls off a superb save. Good news that we got him on a professional contract.
