Just got home from the game, my first post on the new .net, here it goes!

I wasn't to much surprised with the formation before the game, with Benyon preforming badly the past few games, he needed a game on the bench, but the bench wasn't there for him either, whatever went one, we will have to see.
Torquay started of brightly for the first 5 or ten minutes, but it was just downhill from then on until half time. None of the players looked interested and switching to 4-5-1 with grits up front by himself was never going to work. He needed support, simple. He held the ball up well a few times but as mentioned, no supporting runs or calls. One of our 3 'dangerous' attacks came with good link up play involving Zebs, Stevens and Wayno, but nothing came from it. A few defensive mistakes wobbled us of a very small perch, but accrington were just as good as us, neither deserved a lead at half time.
The second half started as the first ended with neither team clinching hold of the game, it seemed like both would be happy with a draw. Torquay had the balls and made a triple sub shortly after one another, and things stated to liven up, with Macklin showing some promising runs and some good play by Nico, it started to look like we could nick something. A free-kick was given to the gulls with around 5 minutes left on the clock, but it came to no a avail, with it striking the wall. There were a couple of chances in the four minutes of added time and Kee came close to scoring against his former lone club. A win for Torquay would have been an injustice. I would start the 3 subs for next saturdays game away at Stevenage as they can prove they have something to show; but hey....

Playing badly and pulling out a point and a clean sheet, is the sign of a decent team.....Onwards and upwards.

There you go. That is what happens when i offer praise to Bucks - he decides that a point at home against Accrington is a fantastic result! We played like the away team for almost the entire game, and this sudden infatuation with 4-5-1 is bizarre. I can understand us using it away, in games we want to keep tight. But at home, when the onus ought to be on us to try and win? We hardly posed the Stanley defence any problems at all. It was our most ineffective performance for quite some time. I'm afraid if you're playing with 1 up-front, it needs to be someone with more pace and mobility than Gritts. It's not his game to be chasing down opposition defenders - he needs to be alongside someone to benefit from his knock-downs. Unfortunately nobody got near enough to him to benefit us in an attacking sense today. The fact we've gone back to the top is a very unexpected bonus (and hardly deserved from that performance). I think we're in danger of over-complicating things. Save the tactical tinkering for the away games that its needed - at home, stick to 4-4-2 and let the opposition worry about us. It's a method that has served us well enough in recent times. Any firm news on where Benners was...?
