Re: Today's Daily Mail (Nov1st)
I should also have mentioned RM that we appeared on Match of the Day again on 31 October 1970. The visitors to Plainmoor that day were Division 3 (League 1) leaders Fulham who had lost only one of their first fourteen games, but we beat them 3-1 in front of a crowd of about 7500. The following week ...

Re: Today's Daily Mail (Nov1st)
Apologies and I'm going to blame it on my age and being in a hurry but when I said "I didn't realise" I really should have phrased it "I can't understand how" What surprises me is that the BBC would use a top of the table Division 3 clash as one of their matches rather than a Di...

Re: Today's Daily Mail (Nov1st)
Just finished the book while on holiday. Some great tales from his Torquay days. I didn't realise we'd been on Match of the Day in the 1960's. It sounds as if we really should have got promoted into what was then the Second Division now the Championship. I wonder where as a club we'd be now if we'd...

At the moment he is with Jarrow Roofing ... perhaps we are hoping he could help out with the new stand whilst he's here

Re: Grandstand update
So who ever went to the hereford game, is all of the old stand demolished yet? How far along? Also Is working well where the teams come out to the pitch so far? Y4L The old stand dating from 1927 is gone. The structure of the newer section at the Family Stand end erected in 1955 is still there but ...

Re: Grandstand update
What a cracking win again today against Hereford and apart from some imaginative attacking play the big bonus was seeing the way that everybody was determined to put their body between the player pulling the trigger and the goal. A great performance full of determination. So why am I on this thread?...

Re: BR Fans and Buckle
Think it is important not to tar all gasheads with the same brush though, the Rovers fans who have posted on here since the summer have come across as decent lads who know there stuff, and reading through there forums , they have more sensible posters than the likes of this guy . Think it maybe imp...

Re: BR Fans and Buckle
From Bristol Rovers forum - "Down in sunny Torquay he was not under the media spotlight so much and the "big club" interest was not evident. So he could spill the beans and get away with it. After all, who really cared about little Torquay" Ouch....but have they seen the weather...

Re: The past, present, our real natural level, club and fans
No you are not talking rubbish Bobby93 as the origins of the population is a factor, but it is not a new phenomenon. Torbay has always been an attractive place to retire for people from all over the country, and when I was working in Torbay in the late 1960's and throughout the 1970's the area was f...

Re: The past, present, our real natural level, club and fans
Excellent post Wonderland. As somebody just a couple of years younger than you I had been intending to do quite a long post but won't now as you have really covered the bulk of what I would have said. There are a couple of minor errors date wise but that is only to be expected when reviewing events ...

It's Fergie's fault, he should never have rested Howard Webb for such a vital home game

You are obviously a betting man Dave but having fleeced a Bristol Rovers fan for a substantial sum you are now going for another cert!Southampton Gull wrote:6th place isn't even in a play-off spot. I'll have a wager with you that you finish lower than that

Re: Has Ling pulled the wool over everyones eyes
Your thoughts now everyone??? Hate to say it but i told you so!! We have lost 4 games. Of the top 7 clubs (ie those in the automatic or play-off places) Cheltenham, Shrewsbury, and Wimbledon have also lost 4, whilst Southend, Crawley, and Morecambe have lost 3. The only difference between our prese...

Re: Rooney Decision!!.....
Thats not a bad list Stef, but some of those are players that played for Torquay on loan or in the twilight of their careers, So they dont really count. A few of those in that list also represented the Gas, the likes of Roberts, Trollope, Micky Evans and Ryan Green. If I was going the same route as...
