Players who made you smile

A lot of retrospective threads on this and the other fans' forum. Even the matchday programme has had a running feature called 'Greatest Gulls' - it's almost like the passing of an era. I do hope I'm wrong.

List of Players who were rubbish with us, but have gone on to be good

Good thread this one, on a subject I've been wittering on for a couple of weeks now. How about Ben Gerring? There he is with the rest of the Truro players in The Times footie section today, celebrating their FA cup win against Hampton & Richmond. The first time a Cornish club has reached the first r...

Jamie Reid (again, probably)

No he wasn't but it just proves the point I've made several times on this forum that ex-Gulls players always seem to improve when they leave the club, and we certainly can't keep the ones who show promise. With the exception of Smith and MacDonald who grew in stature during Nicho's reign I can think...

Should all contracted players terminate their contracts in order to save our club

Agreed - I really can't remember when I last enjoyed a game at Plainmoor. Must have been some years ago now.

Should all contracted players terminate their contracts in order to save our club

I think the issue is far bigger than the players not being up to standard, or the management team not being the miracle workers we didn't expect them to be. There has been systemic and deep-rooted failure at Torquay United for many years now, helped occasionally by injections of cash which give shor...

Fa Cup 4th qualifying round Aldershot v Torquay 14/10/17

It's certainly not what I wanted - I think we have really reached rock bottom now.

You could have scripted that one before the start

Wayne Thomas sacked.

wivelgull, I forgot to comment on your very wise observation that our club has been in a long slow decline since 1972 in spite of a few bright spots now and again. Relegation in May 1972 felt like the end of an era that has never really been recaptured - most of the 1970's were a long boring slog wi...

Mike Fondop - Remember him?

Just goes to prove my posting earlier in the week that ex-Gulls players always seem to do better when they leave Torquay.

Gowling hands in transfer request

Louis, can the title of this thread be changed to something like 'Josh Gowling's form and fitness' rather than the current title which causes alarm every time I see a new posting on it, particularly as Josh himself has said that he has not actually handed in a transfer request?

And 'celebrate good times' by getting the old 'joanna' out presumably?! Very clever Trojan 67.

Torquay v Dover Saturday 7/10/17

Yes, I agree on all counts with the last posting. From where I was standing both goals were ridicolously soft, no effort from the 'defenders' - the crowd's silence on both scoring occasions refected the sheer disbelief at what had happened. I posted earlier that Gallifuoco looked a class act for Dov...

Torquay v Dover Saturday 7/10/17

Sorry, it was on the 'other' Fans' Forum that I saw the observation about the Torquay team being too quiet. Well worth reading this part of Swanny's posting below: 'One observation sitting in the Bristows bench today is that apart from our management team, our players seem too quiet and lack leaders...

Torquay v Dover Saturday 7/10/17

Someone earlier on this thread remarked that Torquay's players are too quiet, with no vocal leaders. My son-in-law, who used to play at a decent non-league level with Folkestone Invicta, accompanied me to the game today (his first time watching the Gulls) and said exactly the same thing - and it's t...

MOTM - Dover

Young - never stopped trying to create something amid the dross
Davis - good in parts
McQuoid - huge effort but little to show
Evans - calm and intelligent
Er....that's it
